about

Wild Goose
For many years I would tour in Australia with my Scottish friend Alex Legg. We played every honkey tonk/ coffee shop/bar and Art Centre we could around Victoria. We would always get home late and drive through the Dandenong Ranges to his little ‘Pool House’ Studio home. We’d talk for hours about every subject under the sun and write songs like our lives depended on it. One evening we spoke about how the Celts took the ‘wild goose’ as their symbol for God’s Spirit. Not a gentle dove, but a warrior bird. This was the result, filled with Scottish imagery and history. A prayer that the wounded would be carried by the Wild Goose.

lyrics

Wild Goose
I am a wild goose
Climb aboard me
And I will take you
To better weather
With the south wind, and my feathers
I will carry you home again

Weary clansman leave Culloden
Let your life blood feed the red burn
Caledonia and fields of Flodden
I will carry you home again

I am the wild goose, climb aboard me
And I will take you, to better weather
With the south wind, and my feathers
I will carry you home again

Beyond the grey skies, a silver lining
And in my highlands, a son is shining
You will be safe there
My wings are waiting
Waiting to carry you home again

I am the wild goose
Climb aboard me
And I will take you
To better weather
With the south wind
And my feathers
I will carry you home again.
