about

The Nail Pierced King.
When I was 16 I saw Rodney Cordner sing in the Ulster Hall, Belfast. Although I was raised in the city, I had never heard live Irish folk music (long story). I was transfixed by this kind of music and followed Rodney around buying all his records. Over the years we have become dear friends (I am so glad that he agreed to sing on this recording) and I owe much to him for setting me on this road. Rodney was doing all of this before I was and when I wrote this song it sounded just like something that he would also write. Kylie though so also and suggested that we have Rodney in to do the vocal track. A great hope that one day we all shall agree in unity that God’s efforts on our behalf are beautiful and good.
Sammy, Rodney & Kylie on vocals.

lyrics

It is with one voice together
Some day all the people shall sing
Give thanks to the great friend of sinners
Give thanks to the nail-pierced king

No stained glass or pulpit to preach from
The poor and the sick came to hear
The words of the carpenter preacher
The words they’d been longing to hear

God wrapped up in flesh walked among us
He dressed in the working man’s gown
With gall in his wine and a cross for a throne
His head wore a cruel bloody crown

The prophet called him man of sorrows
He came with no spear and no sword
He knew with the Father and Spirit
There’s strength in the three stranded
