The Kissing Bridge.
For my wife’s birthday we spent a few days in Amsterdam. We visited museums, music venues and wandered around the famous city exploring the small streets and enjoying the food and drink. You cannot really visit this city without a trip on one of the boats that give you a tour from a very different vantage point. During the tour, our guide sailed us under one of the many bridges and told us that this was a very special one. It was called ‘The Kissing Bridge’. At one time the city was divided into two parts, one side was where people lived and the other was where they worked. As the men (mostly men back then) went to work, their wives would walk them to the centre of the bridge and kiss them ‘good bye’ and wish them a good and fruitful day. In the evening she would return after looking after the home and meet him again on the kissing bridge. It seems like a beautiful example of a place where two worlds meet and become one…a kind of ‘kingdom come’.
It was a delight to have Alice Hoolsema, a beautiful Dutch singer add her vocals to a song inspired by her home town.
